Stephanie Vermeulen
Stephanie Vermeulen is one of South Africa's leading experts on Emotional Intelligence (EQ). Twice published she is an acclaimed author and her boundless energy makes her a highly sought after conference speaker and facilitator. Stephanie's work emphasises the practical application of EQ and, as the first person to introduce emotional intelligence to the South African market, her best selling book - EQ: Emotional Intelligence for Everyone - was initially published in 1999.
She is an entrepreneur who develops applied EQ material for both business and public applications and, over the past 12 years, has worked with the country's major corporate companies as well as multinationals such as PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte Consulting, Daimler Chrysler, Hewlett Packard and Nestle. With a passion for teaching people to grow into their potential, Stephanie gives insight into the emotional habits that inhibit people's progress and provides tools for behavioural change. She also draws parallels between the concept of EQ and the age-old African social system of 'ubuntu'; which roughly translates into the inability to survive or succeed without gaining the co-operation of other people.
With a lifelong zeal for empowering women, she launched her second book: Stitched up: Who fashions women's lives? in November 2004. This book emerged from seminars she developed to specifically deal with the emotional challenges women face as a consequence of female socialisation. In South Africa she also runs cultural diversity programmes to heal the emotional damage created by the appalling history of apartheid. So fed up was she about the negativity existing in South Africa that in 2001 she launched the country's first National Be Positive Day, which now runs as an annual event.
Stephanie has an academic background in formal psychology and with her reputation for 'telling it like it is' her witty and insightful presentations have made a great impact on thousands of people's lives.
Session Information: From Reason to Relations: Managing the Emotional Economy
Key Concepts:Drawing personal power from being authentically human |
Emotion is the currency of the future, and harnessing the power of human nature is overshadowing reason-based systems that dictated cold-hearted concepts like cost-cutting and re-engineering. With accounting-based systems only achieving marginal success, the human element has now taken center stage; so much so that emotional bonds and quality relationships are central to the idea of producing sustainable, profitable growth in future. Practically this translates into producing emotional satisfaction in customers and knowing what inspires top performance in people. Mostly what this requires is a return to being authentically human. During this session delegates will learn to:
- Bring to life the worth of humanity in business
- Revive personal power by emo-energizing
- Trade fear for inspiration
- Understand the central role of feelings in making the best of life
