Key Concepts:The presentation will include practical ways used for the development of students' emotional intelligence. |
South African teachers face many challenges posed by a new inclusive education system - the question is does being emotionally intelligent make it easier ?
In South Africa as a developing country teachers face the challenge of building a sustainable educational system that is capable of accommodating children from diverse cultural and socio-economical backgrounds in an inclusive education system. In view of research that indicate that values such as open mindedness, inclusion, respect are more likely to be achieved within a curriculum that fosters the development of emotional intelligence (Sherlock;2003), the development of emotional intelligence was included in the program of students in their fourth year of pre-service training. The results will be presented together with video extracts from the training and student's responses
