Barbara Jones
Barbara has been teaching and exploring the process of how we learn to learn whilst living and working in the UK, Egypt and Cyprus over the last thirty years. Her focus is to enable students to access learning tools which are appropriate for their specific needs. She has discovered over time that learning encompasses all of ourselves. Her particular interest is motoric learning and the discovery of the habitual patterns children and adults develop when they “try hard”. These patterns are often limiting reinforcing physical, mental and emotional stress. As a Feldenkrais Practitioner she has developed the skill of specific observation and is able to work with individuals through Functional Integration (FI), and groups through Awareness Through Movement (ATM)to help them identify the less helpful organizations and replace them with positive movement strategies which enable them to unlock their full learning potential.
Barbara founded The Soma Centre in the village of Pissouri, Cyprus in 2000. It is a wellness cooperative, in which other practitioners offer their skills and professional experience to assist in the full integration of Programmes of Progressive Learning Development (PPLD) developed by Barbara and is tailored for the needs of the individual.
Barbara finds that by recognizing that we have so much unrealized potential, we are able to explore possibilities in our lives way beyond our imaginings. She believes that when approached with awareness, our challenges can be our greatest gifts which can enable personal growth, physical well being and the opportunity to access our full potential.
Session Information: Feldenkrais - Awareness Through Movement
Key Concepts:During these classes, you will begin to rediscover ease of movement, lightness and your own personal power. |
We are designed as dynamic moving beings with the capabity to have both power and strength and move with grace and lightness. As we loose contact with our integrate system by the demands we place on ourselves on a day to day basis, communication breaks down and skeletal strain, neurological confusion and muscular tension develop. Every part of ourselves begins to work too hard and we begin to suffer tiredness, stress and strain and no longer experience the full joy the integrated self. The movements are gentle and easy to do and speak directly to your neurological and skeletal system which are seeking the easy, pain free, comfortable modes of movement that we are all capable of accessing once more. You will need to wear light comfortable clothing and bring along a large and small towel and something to lie on.
