Author of Emotionally Intelligent Living and Founder of Ei World, Geetu develops and delivers powerful EI programs with measurable results (UK). Speaker Web Site

Geetu Bharwaney (Orme)

Geetu is Founder and Managing Director of EI World, one of Europe's thought leaders in the application of emotional intelligence in business and education. Her main interest lie in organisational development through leadership skills training. She is leading a number of emotional intelligence interventions that integrate executive coaching, research, program delivery, writing, and keynote speaking on emotional intelligence. She has built emotional intelligence interventions from scratch and has proven measurable results from her work with individuals and groups.

Prior to establishing a company in 1999 focused on emotional intelligence, Geetu's early career was in trauma counselling She became a Tutor of the Open University's UK MBA Programme and a Tutor of the Certificate in Training Practice for the UK Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development. She won a National Training Award for her outstanding work and she is respected for her ability to work at the cutting edge of training and leadership interventions. She worked as an associate for many well known consultancies for a period of 7 years before setting up EI (UK) in 1999. This work took her across North America, Africa, Asia, Western Europe, and the Far East.

Geetu's present work involves measuring EQ, researching the characteristics of “star” leadership performance, and providing focused and targeted EQ development. She holds level B qualification in the use of psychometric tests and has recently completed her master's degree in health psychology. Her dissertation topic was a study of 109 UK head teachers. EI World has hosted BarOn EQ-i programmes since 2000 and is now an accredited training site for the BarOn EQ-360. Geetu is the lead facilitator of these programmes. Geetu is the author of Emotionally Intelligent Living (2001, Crown House publishing) and some 15 articles on emotional intelligence which can be downloaded from Ei World's website.

Session Information:

Implementing large-scale Ei programmes in a variety of contexts (corporate, healthcare, educational)

Key Concepts:

How to win stakeholder commitment for major emotional intelligence interventions aimed at developing leaders and key skills.
This session will provide a practitioners’ perspective on efforts to bring emotional intelligence into corporate, healthcare and educational contexts. The session poses three important question for practitioners in the pursuit of emotional intelligence being used to create a sustainable world:

1. What can be learned from implementation of large-scale projects that can be of benefit to educators, practitioners, internal change agents and consultants?

2. Are lessons transferable to other contexts easily?

3. What are the ‘enablers’ and ‘brakes’ within emotional intelligence interventions?

During this session, participants will:

  • Be able to list the components of a major emotional intelligence intervention.
  • State how each component was translated into practical terms.
  • Validate what works and what was more challenging in the implementation phase of such a project.
  • Feel inspired to want to go out a replicate a similar scale project.

Using this knowledge when participants return to their usual work context, they will be more able to:

  • Identify situations and contexts close to home where emotional intelligence interventions may be needed.
  • Influence positively a funding decision or sponsorship for such an initiative through an articulation of clear benefits.
