Focus Session:Emotionally Intelligent Parenting	Sat, May 6, 3:30	The importance of children's EQ is becoming widely recognized as necessary not only for prevention of violence, teen pregnancy, and drug abuse, but also to prepare children for fulfilling personal lives and productive employment. This presentation will help both parents and professionals learn how to facilitate children's social, emotional, and behavioral development. The workshop will teach the skills found in the presenters' book, Emotionally Intelligent Parenting: How to Raise a Self-Disciplined, Responsible, Socially Skilled Child. The presentation will teach how to establish a cohesive and harmonious family environment where rules and values are clearly stated. There will be a focus on "discipline" techniques for children which teach responsibility and self-control. How to further children's ability to recognize, cope with, and express feelings is also covered. In addition, participants will learn a problem solving model for guiding children through problem situations that enables them to make thoughtful and positive decisions for themselves. The presenters will discuss the use of humor and other means of effective communication with children.
