| Focus Session: Elaborating Emotional Intelligence Instruction | Sun, May 7
10:00 |
We will work together to develop a "content architecture" for an emotional intelligence curriculum. This framework will consider the developmental issues of children and young teens as we shape our expectations for their learning. Together we will consider how young people's understandings, feelings and behavioral patterns can unfold as they grow up learning how to relate more constructively to themselves and others. The starting framework will distinguish the beauty, the structure and the thinking of emotional intelligence. For background, see, Self-Science: Emotional Intelligence for Children in Instructional Design Theories and Models (Reigeluth, 1999). We will consider issues raised by major research and best practice to inform our expectations for children, then write some simply worded objectives for teaching and developing emotional intelligence materials across different age levels. Please bring resources to share that you think are important. We will put our results online and start linking sample activities to our objectives so emotional intelligence teachers and curriculum developers have a growing resource. |
