| Focus Session: Leadership, Adversity and Emotional Intelligence: The Latin American Experience. | Friday, May 5,
3:30 |
Many schools and companies in Latin America have demonstrated a clear interest in the development of competency models to aid them in identifying, training and promoting children and adults alike that could excel in the exercise of leadership in order to influence and transform their communities. The results of numerous analysis made particularly in the USA have shown that the ratio of emotional intelligence skills is twice as important as the technical or cognitive abilities. The cultural differences in Latin America, where there is a long standing set of traditions that do not promote empathy, cooperation or social sensitivity, has made the teaching of Emotional Intelligence an extremely difficult, nevertheless, challenging task. Our experience has taught us that individuals even under circumstances where they have to fight against all odds, are willing to challenge old traditions and undergo change. Our work with individuals of the lowest social-economic status has proven that the tools provided by Emotional Intelligence, promote a way of living that could transform communities. | |||
