Preconference Sessions

Session I: The Dynamic Assessment and Development of Emotional Intelligence.

Trainer and researcher J-P DuPreez will share a remarkable process for simultaneously assessing and training emotional intelligence competencies. J-P has been working to develop a unitary measure of emotional intelligence as applied to South Africa; in his work he has explored many assessment models, and is increasingly convinced that EQ is, in fact, a set of intra and interpersonal competencies that can be both measured and developed.

Drawing on the work of Salovey, Mayer, Epstein, Cooper, Steiner, and other prominent researchers, J-P has developed a clear and meaningful process for assessment and personal development. J-P is a lecturer at Potchefstrom University in South Africa, and the CEO of Success Strategies.

May 3 - 4. Enrollment limited to the first 30. $ 445 per person.

Session II: The Emotionally Intelligent Classroom.

British educator and trainer Catherine Corrie will offer a range of practical strategies for creating an emotionally intelligent learning environment. She draws on an eclectic and effective range of programs and experiences from circle time to Self-Science, from mediation to meditation, from blame-free bullying to alliance building. Participants will “get” how their own attitudes and beliefs shape their classroom interaction, how to create a space for children’s real emotions, and how to enhance their daily teaching with EQ.

Catherine brings life and joy to training along with practical experience as an elementary and middle school teacher, a Deputy Head, and a trainer/supervisor for the local education authority (district). Catherine is a well-known teacher trainer in the UK, a certified Six Seconds Network Trainer, and the Mentor Trainer for The Heartskills Coach, a European EQ development company.

May 3 - 4. Enrollment limited to the first 30. $ 325 per person.
